Data quality & sources

Degree Globe is assembled from open, reusable data sources — never bulk-copied from copyrighted databases. Every institution carries provenance: where each fact came from, and when it was last built. When we don't have a fact, we say so rather than inventing one.

Data depth: Levels A, B and C

Not every institution has the same depth. We label each one honestly. Today: 13 full, 0 standard, 10,124 directory. Depth increases automatically as more open sources are ingested.

A

Full profile

Programs, tuition, admissions, deadlines, scholarships and research where available. Indexed for search engines.

B

Standard profile

Verified identity, location, type, founding and research fields. Indexed once enough fields are present.

C

Directory listing

Real institution name, country and official website from open datasets. Crawlable but noindex until it gains depth — we never present a thin page as more than it is.

How institutions are verified & deduplicated

  • 1. Records from every source are normalized to a common schema (folded names, canonical domains, ISO country codes).
  • 2. The same institution across sources is resolved deterministically: external IDs (Wikidata, ROR, IPEDS) first, then official domain, then normalized name + country.
  • 3. Ambiguous matches — like identical names in different countries — are never merged blindly; they go to a review queue (0 pending).
  • 4. Each field keeps its own provenance: source, retrieval date and confidence. The strongest source wins per field.
